Lola Fehr MSN, RN
Running for:
Region Director 1 (DNA 9)

Professional Education:

Diploma, 1958, BSN, 1959, Master's from CU School of Nursing, 1975

Current position held and experiences with change leadership.:

  • Consultant with Colorado Center for Nursing Excellent since 2011.
  • Professional Registered Parliamentarian since 2010
  • Certified Gallup Strengths Coach

I have facilitated change in organizations since 1975 with changes in the Department of Nursing at Weld County General Hospital in Greeley. Over my more than 40 years of experience in working with non-profit professional nursing organizations I have changes that must be faced on two fronts: the organizations themselves and the practice if nursing. My role with organizational change has been as a leader and my role with practice change has been to support the clinicians who practice in those professional environments. It is important that change is understood as adding to and/or substracting from. Boards have to make difficult decisions about closing programs and services as well as adding what is perceived as needed by the members.

ANA/CNA experience (current & past):

  • 1980-1990, Executive Director, CNA
  • 2009-2011, President, CNA
  • 2002-2003, Treasurer, ANA

Served on many committees over the years including the initiation of Chautauqua as a major nursing professional development event.

Please describe experience with governance, management, public speaking, and/or financial management.:

I have served as an employee of boards and on boards that hired executive officers. I am a certified associaiton executive, indicating competence in management and governance. I have managed budgets up to $30.000.000 and organizations as large as 40,000 members. In all those positions I have been called on to speak, sometimes with advance preparation and sometimes extemporaneously. My speaking engagements are now limited, but I do presentations for the Colorado Center for Nursing Excellence and spoke recently at the Nurse Educator Conference in Breckenridge.

1) Please describe what members should know about why you seek being elected to this office or position?:

I am enthused about the direction that CNA is taking and feel I can be supportive in the transition to the new management company. I bring knowledge of other organizations with which I believe there are possibilities for partnership because in the current health care environment no one goes alone.

2) What priorities do you see for CNA at this time?:

Nursing must claim its rightful position as leaders in the designing of the health care system of the future. Nursing organizations and individuals need to understand the behaviors that enhance the visibility and credibiliy of the profession as well as the courage to make the changes that will be needed as we move into a challenging future. The Colorado Nurses Association can be a strong leader on many fronts of this effort. Nurse clinicians need support in their practice as do nurse managers and executives. I want CNA to be the organization all groups can turn to for trspected information and support.

3) As a potential member of the CNA Board of Directors you have a Duty of Loyalty to CNA. That Duty of Loyalty is defined as being able to put the interests of CNA above any others. Please indicate if you have a real or potential Conflict of Interest personally or financially that may impact your ability to vote on select CNA business.:

I serve on the Boad of the Colorado Nurses Foundation and do not see any conflict of interest.

I serve as a consultant to the Colorado Center of Nursing Excellence where there may be a potential conflict of interest. I have navigated whose conlicts before and believe I am sensitive to those responsibilities.
