eNLC Bill First 2018 Bill to Colorado Governor

January 17, 2018

The first bill to the desk of Gov. John Hickenlooper in the 2018 legislative session is a bipartisan agreement that assures that many Colorado licensed RN’s will retain their compact license status.

SB18-027 passed on 3rd Reading in the Colorado House of Representatives this morning!

Upon the Governor’s signature, the bill will go into effect, January 19, 2018, assuring no lapse in licensure for current compact licensed RN’s.

We send a “Thank you” to the over 80 sponsors from both the Colorado House and Senate.  A special thank you to the key sponsors, Senators Smallwood & Todd, and Representatives McKean and Kraft-Tharp.

The bill was first introduced Jan. 10 and passed seven calendar days later.

Colorado Nurses Association would like to acknowledge the work of Megan Wagner, of Brandeberry McKenna Public Affairs, for her extraordinary leadership in this process!

Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact

January 3, 2018
Happy New Year!

Colorado Nurses Association has been actively working with the Brandeberry McKenna Public Affairs firm to assure expedited passage of the Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact prior to the January 19, 2018 deadline.   CNA has also met with Department of Regulatory Affairs Board of Nursing licensing staff to assure that systems are in place to efficiently process licensees in need of expedited compact licenses for continued work in Colorado.  Below is an update from the Brandeberry McKenna Public Affairs firm.
As everyone is well aware the 2018 legislative session will begin on January 10th.  We anticipate the bill to be introduced in the Senate on the 10th and assigned a bill number.  We will be sure to communicate the schedule for the hearings January 11th as soon as it is available on the legislative calendar.

The plan for the legislative hearings is to have the following organizations testify:

A representative from the Colorado Nurses Association
A nurse representative from Children’s Hospital
Rebecca Fostch, National Council of State Boards of Nursing (Questions on the compact)

All folks are welcome and encouraged to attend the hearings.  We have been asked to limit the number of organizations testifying because of the nature of the timing but will be sure to recognize all in attendance.

We truly appreciate all the letters that have been sent to members in support of the eNLC.
